    Frequently asked questions

There are several ways to protect your property from intruders and wrong doers. Limiting the access to your property is one of the best deterrents to criminal activity. Access control, or a door entry system is where admittance to certain parts, if not all, parts of your business or home is restricted with certain technologies. Access control also protects your employees or family as well as your property.

    Control

You don’t want unfettered access to your premises. You want to be able to control and track who enters your building. Using technologies such as Biometric Access Control will limit who can come and go to your property, to people you have given permission to. Using Biometric Access Control allows your employees to move around the business, without relying on physical key entry, or security guards at every access point.

    Safety

In both residential and commercial properties, the safety of those in your care is of the upmost importance. Restricting who can enter and when they can enter can reduce health and safety issues that you will be liable to for.

    Damage and theft

It stands to reason that the more foot traffic an area has, the more likely there will be damage caused to your property. This can be either deliberate, or completely accidental damage. A lot of crime is opportunistic, so limited access leads to limited risk.

    Commercial applications

The most common application for access control is in commercial situations and predominantly used for protection of the facilities and their people.

    Campuses

School campuses need to be safe. A lot of young adults go to university each year and they should feel safe while learning. The most common access control system used, are personal Cards and Fobs that only allow access to people who have a valid pass.

    Schools

Schools are full of rooms and areas that are restricted to staff. There are supply rooms, cupboards, and staff rooms that children are not permitted to enter.

    Offices

Offices must maintain strict control over access, from tracking attendance and managing fire and safety registers to restricting public entry. Intercom systems are an excellent solution for personalized access control. We frequently install video intercom systems at main entrances or gates as part of a comprehensive access control system. This setup allows individuals without a card or fob to contact reception, where their identity can be verified before granting access.

    Apartment buildings and Shared accommodation

In a multi-occupancy building, safeguarding each other's property is a shared responsibility. To ensure security, keypads and physical fobs are used to grant access exclusively to residents. Additionally, each resident's individual unit is secured to protect against unauthorized entry from others within the building.

    Assisted living

Keeping the vulnerable in our communities safe is something we should take seriously. If you have a loved one in assisted living, you should expect levels of security to protect them. Access control will allow healthcare professionals access to your family, without having entryways compromised.
What are the different types of access control?

    Biometric Access Control

Some industries can’t risk having physical security devices that could be lost. Biometric access control uses organic metrics such as facial and fingerprint data to allow access to specific people.

    Physical access control systems

In a setting where there would be a large turnover of people requiring access, Cards and Fobs and other physical access devices are much easier to manage. They can be given out, returned, and even cancelled as and when.

    Intercom

When a visitor arrives on site, who doesn’t have access, they need a way to communicate to the reception. An intercom stops people getting on your property but allows authorised visitors to gain access.

For most of our projects, we primarily work with Paxton due to their robust and versatile solutions that meet the needs of the majority of our clients. As a Paxton Platinum Partner, we benefit from direct preferential support, ensuring that we can deliver the best service possible.

Paxton's Net2 system is a powerful, networked access control solution designed for easy management of various types of buildings, including schools, factories, and apartment complexes. This system can be administered using one or more PCs and offers centralized monitoring and management, with additional features available through the Paxton Connect smartphone app. It provides a comprehensive solution that includes both wired and wireless door entry, allowing users to open doors, gates, and barriers using proximity cards or fobs at pre-scheduled times. For enhanced security, we can also integrate facial or vehicle recognition for access control.

Net2 is highly adaptable, allowing integration with other systems such as CCTV, fire alarms, intruder alarms, and even time and attendance software, which can streamline payroll processing. To further enhance security, we can incorporate iEVO biometric readers at key locations across a site. Additionally, some of our clients utilize Paxton proximity cards as staff ID cards and to control access to specific printers on site.

Paxton 10, another advanced offering, is a subscription-based access control and video management system that operates on a user-friendly, cloud-based platform. It includes most of the features of Net2 but also allows users to access the system via their smartphone or smartwatch, in addition to traditional proximity cards or fobs.

For those seeking an alternative, Salto Systems offers a similar cloud-based solution called Salto KS, which has been available for several years and provides comparable features.

Overall, Paxton's core products offer exceptional solutions for our customers, backed by our expertise as a registered installer and the preferential support we receive directly from Paxton.
